Working breakfast on the situation in Georgia |

Bled, 1 September 2008 – The situation in Georgia and the EU’s possible responses to the latest developments were discussed at the working breakfast which was attended by Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, Swedish and Slovak Foreign Ministers Carl Bildt and Jan Kubiš, EU Special Representative for the Caucasus Peter Semneby, and OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut.

They analysed the events in South Ossetia and Georgia in general since the beginning of August, focusing particularly on measures that could be adopted by the international organisations in order to prevent the spreading of the conflict and assist Georgia and the affected population with humanitarian activities. They also discussed the preparations for today’s Extraordinary European Council meeting and the debate on this topic, which is on the agenda of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers.
