Press Release on the Mumbai terrorist attacks

Ljubljana, 27 November 2008 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia strongly condemns the horrific terrorist attacks and the taking of hostages in Mumbai, for which the Muslim terrorist group Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility. The Ministry expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to those injured. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Samuel Žbogar, sent a letter of condolences to Pranab Mukherjee, the Minister of External Affairs of India.

On the tragic event in Mumbai, the Ministry expresses its solidarity with the Indian authorities and support for their fight against terrorism. Furthermore, it extends its sincere sympathy to the people of India.
The Republic of Slovenia strongly condemns terrorism, for which there is and can be no justification, and resolutely supports international endeavours to fight terrorism. According to the latest news, the attack claimed well over one hundred lives, while it is estimated that as many as 500 people may have been wounded. There were no Slovenian citizens among the victims of this brutal attack.
