Corfu, 28 June 2009 - On 27 and 28 June, Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Žbogar participated in the informal ministerial meeting of OSCE states, which was held on Corfu. The main issues under discussion were security issues and the future security architecture in Euro Atlantic area. In his address, Minister Žbogar highlighted the importance of mutual trust, adding that current security challenges cannot be dealt with only within a classic military and security framework, but that respect for human rights, economic development, energy security and other issues of human security should also be taken into account. He highlighted the importance of fulfilling the assumed commitments and using existing mechanisms within the framework of the OSCE. During the informal OSCE ministerial meeting, foreign ministers of EU Member States also took time to discuss the situation in Iran following the presidential elections. The ministers adopted a joint declaration, and expressed deep concern over the violence inflicted on demonstrators and the continuation of the political crisis in the country. The EU will continue to closely monitor the situation in Iran.
