Informal ministerial meeting within the framework of the Nato-Russia Council
Corfu, 27 June 2009 - On 27 June, Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Žbogar participated in the informal ministerial meeting of the Nato-Russia Council, which was held on Corfu. The joint meeting at ministerial level is an important contribution to the revival of relations between NATO and the Russian Federation, which have failed to reach the expected level recently.
The ministerial meeting indicates that dialogue is being resumed at political level and at the same time is the basis for strengthening cooperation between NATO and the Russian Federation in numerous other fields. The ministers highlighted the necessity of cooperation in dealing with current security issues in a broader European area, and adopted a decision on cooperation on military matters. In his address, Minister Žbogar advocated the renewal of cooperation and trust, as well as constructive and transparent dialogue between NATO and the Russian Federation when dealing with unresolved issues.
