Minister Alojz Peterle held talks with the Chargé d'Affairs at the US Embassy
Alojz Peterle, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, held talks with Trevor Evans, Chargé d'Affairs at the US Embassy, today.
With reference to the forthcoming 55th Session of the UN General Assembly, Minister Peterle pointed out the significance of solving the succession issues, including the status of the FRY in the UN, which is a precondition for the normalisation and stabilisation of the situation in Southeast Europe. The Minister also apprised his interlocutor of the opening of the Information and Cultural Centre of the Republic of Slovenia in Montenegro, and of the decision of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia to assume greater obligations within the UN peace operations budget, in accordance with the level of economic development of the Republic of Slovenia.
Chargé d'Affairs Evans commended Slovenia on behalf of the US Government for its supporting the democratic regime in Montenegro. He also guaranteed assistance to Slovenia in its endavours to solve the succession issues in the UN, and welcomed the decision of the Government concerning the obligations within the UN budget.
