14th Session of Intergovernmental Slovenian-Russian Commission for Economic Cooperation

Zasedanje Medvladne komisije

Srečanje ministrov Erjavca in Nikiforova

Moscow, 13 October 2017 – The Russian capital of Moscow today hosted the 14th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Slovenian-Russian Commission for Trade and Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation, headed by Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec and the Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media, Nikolai Nikiforov.

The two delegations reviewed the status of bilateral economic relations between Slovenia and Russia. The Russian Federation is an important economic partner for Slovenia. The deterioration of macroeconomic indicators in the Russian market and the introduction of sanctions in 2014 have since that year also affected economic cooperation between Slovenia and the Russian Federation; however, the statistical data on the volume of trade and tourism between the two countries show a substantial increase. Slovenia believes in the need to maintain dialogue with the Russian Federation and to ensure active involvement in, and a constructive approach to, problem solving.

In addition to the traditional areas of cooperation, particular emphasis was placed on the arrangement of specific activities to enhance cooperation on energy efficiency, agriculture, forestry, IT and digital transformation, industry, aviation, health care and spa tourism, sports and related industries. The current status of implementing the programme of key projects between the two countries, totalling 35 joint projects, was examined. The meeting was attended by interested Slovenian companies. Target-oriented business delegations and establishing new links with the Russian regions were mentioned as key elements in shaping new business opportunities and their realisation.
