15th Diplomatic Regatta

Izola, 9 September 2017 – Today, Izola was the venue of the 15th Diplomatic Regatta, held by Veter Sailing Club of Koper, under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karl Erjavec, who addressed the participants, including 110 diplomats, at the end of the event.

"I am glad that more than 500 participants from more than 40 countries took part in the diplomatic regatta; this is important for enhancing good neighbourly relations," Minister Erjavec told representatives of the diplomatic corps, business, the media, yacht crews and other distinguished guests; he also thanked the organisers and participants for a lively atmosphere and pleasant event.

The diplomatic regatta is a traditional international event, which serves as a unique tourist promotion of Slovenia as a maritime country. It is an important presentation of Slovenian coast, both its natural and cultural heritage, and business opportunities. The regatta also connects and brings together different public groups in the spirit of sport, cultural and linguistic cooperation, as well as in healthy competition.
More than 500 participants from Slovenian business, politics and sports, as well as more than 110 diplomats accredited to the Republic of Slovenia, including 27 ambassadors and 13 consuls, participated in the 15th Diplomatic Regatta. Fifty crews competed in the gentle winds on the regatta course off the coast of Izola.
At the end of the regatta, Minister Erjavec congratulated all the participants.
