Ministers Erjavec and Dačić discuss succession and Serbia's EU integration

Brdo, 3 June 2017 – Minister Erjavec met with Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, on the sidelines of the Brdo-Brijuni process ministerial meeting.

The ministers confirmed a common interest in the continued development of positive bilateral cooperation. Minister Erjavec emphasised the importance of implementing agreements adopted at last year's intergovernmental session and their meeting earlier this year. For Slovenia, the succession issue is especially important. The ministers exchanged current information and views on the status of the joint sale of properties of the former SFRY.

Serbia's path towards the EU was the focus of the talks. The ministers noted the need to meet the criteria and to commit to the reform process, and underscored the significance of the EU’s active engagement and the integration pace, since a slow process is considered to be a sign that membership is unlikely.

Minister Erjavec assured Slovenia's support for the opening of new negotiating chapters at the June Accession Conference at the end of Malta's EU Council presidency. The ministers also assessed the current situation in the region and exchanged views on other topics, such as the expectations of the Berlin Process summit in Trieste next month.
