Ministers Erjavec and Dimitrov affirm friendly relations between Slovenia and Macedonia

Brdo, 3 June 2017 – Minister Erjavec met the newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, on the sidelines of the Brdo-Brijuni process ministerial meeting.

Minister Erjavec congratulated the new Macedonian Minister on his appointment and thanked him for attending the meeting of the Brdo-Brijuni process immediately after assuming his duties.

The ministers assessed that Slovenia and Macedonia have positive bilateral relations and intensive and dynamic cooperation. They expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation in different fields, especially in the economy.
The new Macedonian government's priorities, including the process of Euro-Atlantic integration, were at the heart of the talks. Minister Erjavec reaffirmed Slovenia's continued support for Macedonia’s efforts to join the EU and NATO. He emphasised the importance of priority reforms and, in particular, the implementation of the agreement reached between the political parties last July. He expressed the hope that Macedonia would hold credible local elections and respect the position and work of its special public prosecutor. He assured his counterpart that Slovenia would continue to actively support Macedonia's unfortunately slow progress on its path towards Euro-Atlantic structures.
The two sides also assessed the current migration situation in the region.
