MFA on the referendum in Turkey
The Ministry has closely followed the 16 April referendum, in keeping with its usual great interest in the situation in Turkey.
Seeing Turkey as an important strategic partner of both Slovenia and the European Union, the MFA regularly stresses the importance of a continued dialogue between the Union and Turkey, and living up to democratic standards and expectations relating to EU candidate countries and member states of organisations such as the Council of Europe.
The same goes for the Sunday referendum, as a legitimate verification of the will of the voters. The MFA is convinced that in implementing constitutional changes the Turkish authorities will adhere to international norms and obligations.
The Ministry expects that Turkey will adequately consider the report by the OSCE/ODIHR observer mission.
