State Secretary Štiglic holds consultations in Ireland
Dublin, 24 November 2016 – State Secretary Sanja Štiglic today held bilateral political consultations with the Minister of State for European Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland (DFAT), Mr Dara Murphy. She also met the Secretary General at the DFAT, Mr Niall Burgess, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs of the National Parliament of Ireland, Senator Terry Leyden, the Secretary-General to the President of Ireland, Mr Art O’Leary, and the Director for UN issues at the DFAT, Mr Frank Smyth.
State Secretary Štiglic and Minister of State Murphy assessed relations between Slovenia and Ireland as positive and friendly, without any outstanding issues. The two countries share an interest in strong bilateral cooperation in various fields and the further strengthening of high-level cooperation.
The two sides exchanged views and positions on current foreign policy affairs, including the EU’s future and Brexit issues. They also emphasised the importance of joint action in migration management, future EU enlargement, and the maintenance of stability and security in the Western Balkans.
