Return of stolen “dagger from Ig” to Slovenia and its presentation to the National Museum of Slovenia

Ljubljana, 6 July 2018 – Yesterday, a museum exhibit known as “the dagger from Ig” was returned from the United Kingdom to Slovenia, where it had been stolen from the National Museum in 1985. Today, it was handed over to the Museum by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


The return of the exhibit dating from the end of the Late Bronze Age (17th century B.C.) was led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Interpol, the Art Loss Register, and with the assistance of the Slovenian Embassy in London.


The return of the dagger and its importance for Slovenian cultural heritage will be presented in greater detail at the joint press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and the National Museum of Slovenia. The date for the press conference has yet to be announced.
