Minister Erjavec addressed high school students at Model European Parliament session in Ljutomer

Ljutomer, 15 April 2018 – Minister Erjavec spoke to the participants of the regional session of the Model European Parliament, hosted by Ljutomer.

The Model European Parliament is an international project aimed at young people from all EU Member States and candidate countries. The project is intended to raise interest in the EU and its agenda, and to encourage cooperation and exchanges of views among youth on certain EU issues. The regional event is being hosted by the Franc Miklošič High School Ljutomer, and is attended by students from twelve countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe.

In his address, Minister Erjavec underlined the importance of active thinking and addressing European topics and challenges, as this is the only way for the EU to respond to the expectations, needs and wishes of its citizens. In this way, citizens feel a closer connection with the EU and its policies, which is vital for strengthening trust in European institutions and preserving a strong and closely connected Union.

It is essential that the public debates on EU’s future also involve young people, who present their different ideas, get to know one another, respect the diversity of opinions and shape creative solutions.
