The department monitors the domestic and foreign policies of the United States and Canada, with a special emphasis on strengthening Slovenia's cooperation with these two countries within Euro-Atlantic organisations and through closer bilateral relations. In relation to Latin America and the Caribbean the division maintains bilateral relations with key states in the region and cooperates in forming Slovenia's positions on individual issues within the EU common foreign and security policy towards these countries.
