Between 14 and 16 September 2005, a High-level Plenary Meeting of the 60th Session of the General Assembly (World Summit) was held in New York, which was attended by Slovene President Dr Janez Drnovšek and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Dimitrij Rupel. At the end of the meeting an Outcome Document was adopted unanimously, which contains a list of important proposals for further reform of the organisation.
Following the UN World Summit, the UN reform process is now being managed by the 60th General Assembly President, Jan Eliasson from Sweden. The debate on key topics is held in committees, each being chaired by two ambassadors of UN Member States. All Member States take part in the discussion, having agreed that the UN needs to adapt to global challenges and threats of the modern world.
The General Assembly President’s website for the follow-up process of reform as established by the 2005 World Summit is available.
Important documents and reports regarding the UN reform are available at the following UN webpage: UN reform.
