Slovenia assumed the Human Security Network (HSN) presidency at the 8th ministerial meeting in Bangkok on 2 June 2006. A Presidency Action Plan was made for this purpose, and was adopted at the Ministerial lunch on 21 September in New York during the course of the UN General Assembly Session.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitrij Rupel attended the ministerial meeting in Bangkok and presented the Slovene presidency priorities in the period until May 2007.
During its presidency, Slovenia devoted special attention to the following issues:
- the role of the HSN in the newly founded Human Rights Council,
- promotion of inter-religious and intercultural dialog,
- violence against children and children affected by armed conflicts.
Slovenia continued with the regular Network activities regarding the prohibition of anti-personnel mines, the issue of small arms and light weapons, the role of women in the peacekeeping missions, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and trafficking in human beings.
Slovenia formally concluded its HSN presidency at the 9th Ministerial Meeting in Ljubljana on 17-18 May 2007, and handed over the presidency to Greece.
