Minister Rupel gives opening speech at the 9th HSN Ministerial Meeting

Ljubljana, 18 May 2007 – Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel today gave his introductory speech at the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network, focusing on Slovenia’s activities in the field of protecting children from violence, especially during Slovenia’s HSN chairmanship. Minister Rupel called for coordinated action by different players in the field of child protection and presented Slovenia’s proposals for further HSN activities in this field.

HSN Senior Officials Meeting 
Brdo pri Kranju, 1 December 2006 – As part of the international conference on the prevention of violence against children and human security, the second senior officials meeting was held in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, under the auspices of the Slovenian chairmanship of the Human Security Network. Slovenia assumed the chairmanship of the Network from Thailand on 2 June 2006.

A speech by Slovenia’s representative to the UN on behalf of the Human Security Network at the UN Security Council open debate on women, peace and security
New York, 26 October 2006 - An open debate on women, peace and security was held by the UN Security Council in New York.The purpose of the occasion was to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of UN SC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, adopted on 31 October 2000, and to present proposals for the improvement of women’s role in peace processes.Ambassador Roman Kirn, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the UN, delivered a speech for Slovenia on behalf of the Human Security Network.

Slovenian contribution at the 7th Meeting of the State Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction
Geneva, 18 September 2006 – The 7th Meeting of the State Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (Ottawa Convention) is being held in Geneva. At the meeting, Slovenia spoke on behalf of the Human Security Network as it is currently holding its chair. Slovenia emphasised the great success of the Convention and drew attention to anti-mine activities which will remain our challenge in the future. Every month 2000 people die because of mines and more are left maimed. 80 per cent of victims are civilians and 25 per cent are children.

Toronto, 17 August 2006 – XVI International AIDS Conference organised by the International AIDS Society is held in Toronto. At the Conference, Slovenia spoke on behalf of the Human Security Network.

UN Security Council on children in armed conflicts 
New York, 24 July 2006 - Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the UN, Ambassador Roman Kirn, participated at an open debate on children in armed conflicts, which was held on Monday 24 July 2006 at the Security Council. Ambassador Kirn spoke on behalf of the Human Security Network, which joins together 14 countries with Slovenia as the presiding one.

Slovenia highlights the importance of protection of civilians in armed conflicts

New York, 28 June 2006 - An open debate on protection of civilians in armed conflict was held today in New York in the framework of Denmark’s one-month Presidency of the UN Security Council. Slovenia participated in the debate in on behalf of the Human Security Network.

Slovenia’s Chairmanship of the Human Security Network

Bangkok, 2 June 2006 – At the 8th Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Slovenia assumed the chairmanship of the Human Security Network (HSN) from Thailand. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Dimitrij Rupel, who outlined the priorities of Slovenia’s chairmanship.
