SLOVENIA FOR A SUCCESSFUL EUROPE OF THE FUTURE

The result of the British referendum on withdrawal from the EU, and the financial and economic crises combined with a migration crisis have raised various questions about the future of the European Union and its legal and institutional structure.

Along the lines of numerous discussions on this topic across EU Member States and in European institutions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organising a series of public debates. Its aim is to consult national stakeholders and opinion leaders from academia, the business sector and civil society, as well as social partners and political decision-makers on how to make the Union more effective, more democratic and, most importantly, make it provide a better life for Europeans.

The European Union has had a positive effect on Slovenia’s development: the single market offers numerous benefits to citizens and entrepreneurs; student exchange programmes have facilitated a smoother transition between education and the labour market; and we all enjoy the privilege of a peaceful and clean environment. The debate on the future of the European Union will address questions crucial to a successful Europe of the future. Together, we will discuss various topical issues, such as economic growth, security, migration, and youth. The views that are heard will inform our vision of the future of the EU and Slovenia's role within it. You are cordially invited to take part in all the topical debates and to contribute to Slovenia's input to make the Europe of the future successful. Further information on the dates and venues of the debates will be available on this website.
