Career:

 

Dobran Božič started his career as the chief chemist at AERO Chemical Company in Celje. In 1993, he became an active duty member of the Slovene Armed Forces (he was commissioned as a Reserve Officer in 1984) where he served until 2016. In those 23 years of active duty, he held several command and staff positions at different levels. The last military leadership position he held was that of Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces from 2012 to 2014.

 

He spent a decent portion of his professional life abroad in multinational environments, including having his posting to Kosovo, where he led the largest ever Slovenian contingent abroad to date, and to Afghanistan in 2011.

 

After retiring from the military in 2016, he was appointed Director of the Government Office for the Protection of Classified Information. He was also put in charge of a project to develop and establish the first Slovenian body for cyber security.

 

In his 23 years of active duty service, he was awarded the highest honours and medals of both Slovenian Armed Forces as well as other allied forces. He frequently gives lectures and speeches about military affairs and cyber defence strategy for key military and civilian personnel.
